Historical Market Hall
The popular market hall can already look back on a tradition of over 100 years. The market hall was opened in 1908 as a private weekly market by Oswald Prenzel. Despite extensive destruction during the Second World War, the market hall was rebuilt after the war. In 1958, the site received a solid roof on iron girders for the first time. After the death of the founder, his son Walter Prenzel took over the management and built a completely new market hall. On 23 March 1972, the former market hall opened its doors at the Tegel-Center.
This brings the future
Tegel is to be given a modern and lively shopping street that is to become a nationwide model for shopping streets. The aging Tegel Center, Gorkistraße and Hertie-Haus will be revitalized from 2016 to 2021. A modern concept will give Tegel an attractive centre and a promenade for young and old alike.
From 2016 to 2019, the market hall's traders will move into the former Hertie Haus due to the renovation. After completion of the construction, the market hall will be located in the southern part of the area.
As the project developer, the HGHI is committed to the centuries-old tradition of the market hall. The market hall will remain part of the Tegel community and be given a new look. With a lovingly developed concept, the future market hall will shine in new splendor.
